Are these findings consistent with astrological literature?

YES Sagittarius people love freedom (hence, more single status), the open air (occupations such as farmer, gardener). Moreover, Sagittarius is a fire sign and as such gets on with other fire signs (Aries) and air signs (Aquarius), but not with water signs (Pisces).  Finally, Sagittarius people are considered to be the most optimistic of the zodiac and therefore less prone to suicide.

NO   There does not seem to be any astrological explanation for the purchase of astrological literature.  In theory Sagittarius, being a fire sign should get on well with Gemini.
