Are these findings consistent with astrological literature?

YES  The fact that Scorpio was the top buyer of astrological literature fits with the interest of Scorpio for paranormal subjects, such as parapsychology, etc.  The propensity to marry a water sign (Pisces) and less Gemini, Aquarius and Aries people (first two are Air signs, the third is a Fire sign) also fits.  Also the high incidence of accidents and propensity to play football are consistent with the ruler of the sign (Mars)

NO  Psychology is supposed to be of considerable interest to Scorpios, whereas none of the more frequent occupation choices are typical of Scorpios.
